Knee: Injuries and Other Conditions
Injuries can occur from a sudden traumatic event (i.e. torn
ligaments, torn cartilage or fracture) or may happen as a
result of repetitive overload or over use (i.e. patellar
pain syndrome, jumper’s knee, and tendinitis). Injury
patterns about the knee will also vary with different sports
or activities.
Some of the more common knee injuries or ailments include
the following:
- Knee arthritis
- Torn ligaments especially torn anterior cruciate
ligament (ACL tear)
- Other torn ligaments i.e. MCL, LCL, PCL- or
combinations
- Patellar Pain Syndrome (i.e. chondromalacia patella) –
kneecap pain
- Torn Meniscus (i.e. torn cartilage)
- Patellar (kneecap) subluxation and/or dislocation
- Infrapatellar tendinitis – also called “jumper’s knee”
- ITB friction syndrome (Iliotibial friction syndrome)
- OCD (osteochondritis dissicans)
- Chondral Defects (joint surface damage)
